Presentation Description
Institution: Palliative Care Australia - Australian Capital Territory, Australia
Background; The Paediatric Palliative Care National Action Plan Project (the project) was tasked with improving the quality, accessibility, information sharing, and data of the sector. Working in partnership with consumers, health professionals, community organisations and peak bodies the project has delivered over 16 individual activities, including a national conference, the National Action Plan, website and resources for health professionals and families.
Methods; Utilising Driscoll’s ‘What, So What, Now What?’ reflection model, the Project Team reflected on the outputs of the project, the impact of these outputs, and next steps.
Results;
What?
Strengths and challenges for each project activity will be presented.
Across the projects, the consumer voice has been embedded and heard. This voice is reflected in consumer feedback;
Thank you so much … for allowing me to always feel safe and free to express my views as a consumer. It is really a privilege to be able to help with this wonderful project in any way I can.
This has been a true demonstration of a very valued partnership between consumers and the Project team. This plan is thoughtful, respectful and reflective of the real lived experience. This is what we need, this is what will work.
So what?
Priority actions from the project will foster a self-improving paediatric palliative care sector. The key strength across projects was intersectoral collaboration, bringing together national clinical and consumer expertise to focus on the ‘big picture’ and produce quality outputs.
Now what?
Some next steps are logically national in focus, and we will continue advocacy for national projects. It is hoped that the momentum built through collaboration can be continued across the sector. In collaboration with those ‘on the ground’, the project has planted seeds for improvement in Paediatric Palliative Care.
