Presentation Description
Storytelling is intrinsic to the practice of Palliative Care. Every time we see a patient or meet a family we invite their story into our lives. Every time we describe a patient to our colleagues we become their storytellers. As a discipline we know these stories are far deeper and richer than the recitation of facts or the accuracy of approaching death and a diminishing life. Those stories become our stories and help to shape who we are, they are powerful and strengthen our lives.
This workshop explores the nature of storytelling within Palliative Care. How does it relate to our practice and our understanding of the very nature of work we share? What does it teach us about self? To what extent is storytelling an engine to our own reflection and responsiveness to self care?

In the Year of the Voice we will invite you to "deeply listen" to three award winning narratives drawn from the many and often brave stories from the competition. Each narrative will be read by the author so their voice will tell their own story and
