President of the Latin American Association for Palliative Care (ALCP) and Research Adivser with International Association of Hospice and Palliative Care (IAHPC)
Dr. Tania Pastrana was born in Colombia. She received a medical degree from the Universidad de Caldas, Colombia and a degree in sociology from University of Munich in Germany. She received a Doctorate in Medical Anthropology and Psychosomatic from the University of Munich and Max Planck Institute. Since 2007, Tania works as Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Department of Palliative Medicine in the University Hospital RWTH Aachen in Germany. She was elected as President of the Latin American Association for Palliative Care (ALCP) until 2018. She is author of several publications about the situation of palliative care in Latin America including the Atlas of Palliative Care in Latin America. Tania is also involved in different projects for developing and advancing of palliative care in the region as integration of palliative care in undergraduate medical education, improvement of availability of opioids, among others.
